I have had a bad eating week but I got some exercise by accident on Friday. We missed the school bus and had to walk home.

The incidental exercise and vegetarian eating seems to working anyway cause my belt has to be tightened a notch. YAY

Our Newspaper Club was started by Mr Stanley Mason in 1991. At that time
Mr Mason was the Senior English 1st Language teacher. Mrs Coetser ran the club
for a short while until she immigrated to Ireland.

The aim of the club was to improve the pupils’ journalistic, public relations and
photographic skills. The Newspaper was funded by advertisements from local businesses.

Pupils were required to sell newspaper space, take relevant photographs and write
noteworthy articles.

Mr Mason was instrumental in acquiring the school’s first computer which was
used for the Newspaper Club. At that time the Newspaper was printed by a local
printing shop in Bellville.

The newspapers were sent to old-scholars regularly to keep them informed of interesting
events and activities at their Alma Mater.

Mrs Simone Coetser has taken over from Mr Mason and is doing a good job.

I love the Sabbath. I really appreciated the Sabbath when I was at University. It was the one day of the week I could take a break from studies without feeling guilty.

I studied early hours of the morning - between 2-4pm, this was when it was the most quiet. I ensure that I went to bed early and after studying I would sleep again. I am not sure it was the healthiest thing to do but for my circumstances it worked.

Reading the article below reminded of the different circumstances we as youth face. No matter what we can be assured that we can put our in God.

Lord who lifts the needy out of the ash heap - Ps 113:7

We used to live in a single bed-room house during my entire schooling years. It always happened that our house was flooded with relatives or guests all the time or whenever there was a crucial exam around. I used to go to friends place sometimes to study but it was tough to do so always.

So, most of the times kitchen offered me solace. Since my mom used to be in the kitchen cooking for guests always, I had to find a place that doesn’t disturb my mom. I found one place indeed. There was a two square feet gap between the rice rack and fridge. I sat there and studied for all my exams. Kitchen used to be hot and the heat of the fridge would be like fuel to the fire.

Nevertheless, at that time, Education was the only weapon I had next to God. I will cry and hang on to him and say, “Lord, make me pass thro this period”. He did too. Today, am a engineering professional with a good take home pay.

Do we need any more explanation for God’s concern for needy people? He literally took me out of the ash heap and has placed me in a high mountain. Praise be to him. Are you needy? Are you in ash heap? Cast your hope in the Lord! He is our provider!

How important is family to us? And friends? This evening, as we contemplate the week gone by and the arrival of the Sabbath, we need to ask ourselves: "Are we allowing past hurts and grudges to keep us from the ones we love? Have we grown tired of forgiving our brother?"
Jesus never grows tired of forgiving us our sins. Never, not once, has He lashed out at us or withdrawn His sacrifice due to our sinful nature. Yet we tend to be merciless and unforgiving to those who pierce us with their words and with their acts.
Here stands a challenge as we near the Sabbath hours: if you have anything against your brother, leave your sacrifice at the alter and hurry to him to resolve the matter. Then return and offer your offering of thanksgiving.

It is nearly time for mid-year exams.
With exams threatening to steal our thunder, it is often easy to forget about others and dwell on how much WE need to do and how stressed WE are. But that isn't the way Christ intended for it to be. He has always put emphasis on putting others first, and with that thought I'd like to present 10 ways to show someone you care (even when you're feeling like you really are more of a priority than your neighbour)...

How can you show love more often

Through compassionate deeds
By forgiving others
Through caring confrontation
By being loyal
With humor
In celebrations
By being creative
By honoring others
By really listening and trying not to dominate conversations
By teaching others to care

Take this challenge: Do one of these for the next ten days and really take interest in others.

I have just completed making my list for my swap - 100 Things I would like to do before I die. I decided to search on this topic. I see many people have done their own list. There are even generic ones where you can just tick off (i have done a lot of things on those list).

In the process I started thinking about what can I do for others. I found this free e-book: 101 Ways to Change the World from Together We Can Change the World Publishers. In the book there is a link to a movie called Be The Difference.

I thought this was really some great stuff - some things listed are elementary (you are probably doing it already) but its sometimes good to get affirmation that what we are doing does make a difference.

…give yourself permission to go a different way

The Pilgrims landed on the shores of America full of vision. The first year they established a town. The next year they elected a council. In their third year the town council proposed building a road five miles out into the wilderness for westward expansion. But the people criticised it as a waste of public funds. Amazing! Once they had been able to see across oceans to new worlds, now they could not see five miles down the road. What happened? They lost their vision! How can you keep that from happening to you?

1) Refuse to become self-centered! God wants you to enjoy success, but anytime the profit margin becomes more important than the service principle, you will forfeit God’s blessing.

2) Do not get lost in the mundane! One successful leader writes, ‘In preparation for the day, I focus on the main event and ask, ‘In order to make the main event a good event, what must I know? Do? Eliminate?’ Some things will be fun, some will not, but with preparation the most important things will get done well.’

3) Refuse to go with the flow! Most of us are married to the status quo. We want what is, not what can be. We seek safety and simple answers. To keep your vision alive you must give yourself permission to go a different way; to break new ground. The moment your eyes open each morning remind yourself, ‘There is more out there than what I’ve experienced,’ then commit your day to God and get moving!

"When my roommate who is pursuing his PhD in Mathematics posed the question, my first reaction was, “You sure you want to talk math with a student who barely passed it in high school?” Further discussions led me not to become a scientific thinker, but at least to realize in my own special way just who God might be.

Just hang on as I explain a bit of Physics 101…what is a Dimension? Google says, “Dimension (n) a measure of spatial extent, especially width, height, or length”. Dimensions are derived in some point in time.

Alright, that being said, any non scientific person would know 3 different types of dimensions. We humans are 3D (dimensional), a painting on a canvas or your wall is a 2D object and a line or a piece of string is 1-dimensional. Consider this - when you have the shadow of a 3D object we have a 2 dimensional shadow, when we have the shadow of a 2D object a painting we have a 1 dimensional shadow which is a line, and when you see the shadow of a line it is a dot, which is what we call zero dimensional.

Having said all this, the question arises how many dimensions is God. I call the fourth dimension, God’s dimension. Scientists consider the fourth D to be something like a hypercube.

Man’s Quest for God and His exact likeness will end only when He comes back. Our understanding of God’s dimension is unattainable now. If we know that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s image*, a shadow-likeness, then God has to be the fourth dimension.

Then why can’t we understand God fully? I don’t know how many of you have seen the movie Flatland, but I’ll set up the scenario. Let’s pretend humans are all 2 dimensional. Then our visions would be flat. Our ability to understand a third dimension would be out of bounds because we might never have ever seen and understood what it means to be 3D. Maybe there in lies our answer.

It’s funny, sad, yet all so true

How we hold on to things that only break us in two

It heartbreak, disappointing and painful

To realize that in the end, you’re the look

What did they do to get the love

To get peace through that white dove

I’m sick of being alone and rejected

I need someone to feel connected to

It’s funny, sad yet all so true

How the person that loves you more than life is you

Our tears manifest into rivers so deep

Our lives into heels so steep

It’s most probably part of life’s journeys

To feel as though your heart has a permanent injury

I’m sick of not belonging

I’m sick of wondering

What love is like when you’re on the other side receiving

The mothers that father us...

We all know without a doubt that mothers have a role they have to play. What happens when push comes to shove and the mother then has to play the fathers role? She then has to play two roles at ones and be good in both.

What is the role of a father? The first words that come to my mind when I hear word father are authority, and guidance. So his role, Is it for protection, security, to be good role model, to love their families? All these and so much more could be possibilities neh? What happens when they up and leave, take a tangent? What then?I’m fully aware of the fact that mothers could also do these things, but then there are other things that mothers need to take care of like, giving warmth to their kids, a different kind of love, a soft one! You know?

I’ve stated some of the roles that mothers play and some that fathers play. We see that when we are raised by single mothers the roles that fathers should play the mothers play it with all their hearts. These are the people that father us straight into life. There are things that fathers try to do in a wedding, but we all know that when the going gets tough, some fathers get going.

I’m a child that is being raised by a single mother and I must say that I don’t have that empty space that says “my parents aren’t married” because my mother has always done her utmost best. My father and I were the best of friends, we got like nothing else on this earth...”daddies little girl” kind of thing. So when my dad left it was the worst thing that ever, I cried none stop. I always knew that my mother was a strong woman, but I didn’t really know how strong, today I know. She did the best she could to make sure that we were happy and that we received all we needed. I found myself asking what exactly fathers were for, because the mom I had seemed to have did it better than the man who was supposed to be doing it himself.

I’m who I am today because of what my mother has done and sacrificed for me. If it wasn’t for her love and dedication I don’t know where I’d be.

So I salute all the mothers that have gone through what my mother has gone through and still managed to come out at the top. Thank you so much for being an example to your children and the children of many people out there.
